Ethiopia Chelchele Supernatural
Banko Chelchele is in the Gedeo Zone in Ethiopia, where elevation, soil, and climate are ideal for growing top-quality coffee. This lot is an anaerobically fermented natural coffee from Chelchele, Ethiopia, produced by smallholder farmers organized around the Banko Chelchele washing station and the organization EDN, who have affectionately dubbed it “supernatural.” The flavor profile is clean and fruit-forward, with notes of strawberry shortcake, wildflower honey, and pineapple, supported by hints of rose hips, and sweet citrus.
The community-driven production of coffee is deeply tied to the cultural fabric of the Chelchele people. Coffee is more than a crop here; it’s a symbol of unity, where families come together during the harvest season to hand-pick only the ripest cherries. The meticulous care in cultivation and traditional sun-drying methods enhances the coffee’s quality, with generations of expertise passed down within the community.
